The Power of Email Marketing - Why Conversations Convert

In our July newsletter, we shared a quick update about two exciting possibilities we were exploring - welcoming a digital marketing apprentice to our team, and finding a small office space in Telford. Nothing too formal, just a friendly mention along with a request for any insights or recommendations from our subscribers.

What happened next proved just how powerful email marketing can be.

Just two days later, we heard from a brilliant young person who had already started their digital marketing apprenticeship and was actively looking for a role. Fast forward a few weeks, and Vicky has had to put her HR hat back on sooner than expected - we’re now in the onboarding process, getting everything ready for a September start!

We also had a couple of people get in touch about office space opportunities, and after putting a shout out on LinkedIn too, we’ve had some leads to follow up on there as well (more news on all this soon!).

None of this came from a hard sell. It came from a short paragraph in a monthly email, and it sparked real, local conversations.

It’s a great reminder that email marketing isn’t just about shouting into the void. When you treat your emails as a two-way channel - asking questions, sharing updates, inviting your audience in - the results can be surprising and genuinely helpful. Even if they only read the first paragraph (and we know at least some of you do!), that might be all it takes to start a valuable connection.

A few takeaways from our own inbox:

  • Speak to your audience – don’t just broadcast, invite conversation.

  • Ask for help – people are often more willing to support you than you think.

  • Connect with your community – it builds trust, recognition, and real opportunities.

  • Review your data – if you’re sending email campaigns, look at who’s clicking…then reach out! You never know where that chat might lead.

  • Pay attention to what works – which of your emails get the most clicks or replies? What made them stand out?

We help clients with email marketing too; from monthly newsletters to one off campaign blasts, and we always encourage them to think about what value they’re offering their readers, and what opportunities there might be to spark a reply.
