From Horses To Helicopters: A Day in the Life of An Apprentice
At Shropshire Creative, we believe that the best learning doesn’t just happen in the office, it happens out in the real world where apprentices can roll up their sleeves and truly experience their craft.
Last week, Maddi had one of those days that perfectly captures the spirit of hands on learning. From horses to helicopters - she was right in the middle of it all.
The day started out on location with one of our clients, Longner Bloodstock. Maddi was there to help Ben film and capture content that told Longner’s story authentically - from the quiet moments of care to the power and grace of the animals in motion. It was a chance to see how planning, timing, and attention to detail come together to create great visual storytelling.
Then, in the afternoon, it was a complete change of scene - heading off to see another client at the Halfpenny Green Airport to film helicopters in action! From prepping equipment to capturing takeoffs and aerial movement, Maddi got a front-row seat (literally) to the technical precision that goes into both aviation and videography.
By the end of the day, she’d experienced two completely different environments - and learned lessons from both. That’s the beauty of an apprenticeship at Shropshire Creative: no two days are ever the same. Every task, every environment, every challenge builds a stronger foundation for the future.
At Shropshire Creative, we know that hands on learning isn’t just important - it’s essential. It allows apprentices like Maddi to connect theory to practice, develop confidence in real world situations, and discover what truly excites them in their chosen career. It was a busy, fast paced day - the kind of day that tests adaptability, focus, and creativity. But it’s exactly this sort of practical experience that helps apprentices grow their skills and confidence. Watching Maddi take on such a varied and exciting day reminds us how much we love doing what we do here at Shropshire Creative.
We can’t wait to see what’s next!
What are Maddi’s takeaways from the day?:
No day is the same - it can get really crazy sometimes.
Remember to bring some water and a snack - you don’t know when you might get to have a break.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get - Maddi volunteered herself for a short ride in the helicopter to capture some ‘overhead’ clips.
Never stand behind a horse!
